Another burst of activity in April and tons of good weather, has
seen the roof take shape. The two carpenters Framing the roof
have spent about seven days so far and all that remains to do
is break into the existing roof and fit the barge boards.
For their 15th day of work the bricklayers have built up the gable
ends to match the pitch of the rafters. The Chimney was also finished
once a third lift of scaffolding had been built around it. The
top part of the chimney is decorated using up a half thickness
bricks that had been sliced up with a masonry saw.
Southern electricity came in three sessions to relocate the electricty
pole. The Roof had already been built up around the cables, they
erected a new pole at the edge of the garden, clear of the house.
The service cables to the three houses in our group were pulled
through ducts that had already been laid through the garden to
the bottom of the new pole. On the final day the power was off
for four hours while they cut the existing cables and extended
them to the new pole, jointing the three phase aliminimum cables
with crimp-on connectors.
Once all the cables had been removed from the old pole it was
felled with a chain saw. We've now got to find a use for the old
pole and work out what to do with the stump that is left.
